Exceptional Skills Work Visa South Africa

Attention: As per 26 May 2014, the Quota Work Permit and Exceptional Skills Work Permit have been replaced with the Critical Skills Work Visa.

There are certain skills and qualifications which are deemed exceptional by the government of South Africa, in these instances, foreigners with such qualifications and/or skills may be able to obtain an Exceptional Skills work visa.

Applicants wishing to apply for the Exceptional Skills Work Visa may do so, providing their skills and/or qualifications match those required.

Exceptional Skills Work Permit – Requirements

In order to apply for this visa, the applicant need not secure employment at the time of application. What qualifies as exceptional is not detailed precisely in legislation, but if you are in possession of a doctorate in a specific field and/or have published articles or books and/or are considered an expert in a field, this can aid your application.

An exceptional skills work visa is valid for three years and may at the discretion of the Director General of Home Affairs be extended to your immediate family (biological or judicially adopted child, adoptive parent/s and spouse).
