Jacob Zuma Resigns – What’s next for South Africa?

South African President Jacob Zuma resigned on Wednesday ‘with immediate effect’ after being under pressure by the ruling African National Congress party over corruption allegations. In a speech that lasted 20 minutes, he thanked his party and the country for allowing him to serve as state president
Jacob Zuma was replaced as leader of the African National Congress (ANC) in the party’s December election by Cyril Ramaphosa, who is expected to be elected swiftly in a parliament vote and sworn in. Ramaphosa, one of South Africa’s wealthiest businessmen, has vowed to root out government corruption
Mr Ramaphosa has said his priority is reviving South Africa’s battered economy. Shortly after winning the bitterly contested ANC leadership battle, he said “we must all do all we can to ensure that we turn our economy around”
What will happen to Immigration in South Africa? Cyril Ramaphosa’s first speech as the new president of the ANC left many South Africans hopeful and enthusiastic about the country’s future. Virtually all interested parties in the immigration industry are urging him to engage with their sector urgently to discover the hurdles blocking his ambition to make South Africa attractive for foreign investment
The immigration industry has taken due notice of Ramaphosa’s contributions to the country and his commitment to fighting corruption and putting South Africa back on the market as one of the top destinations for foreign investment, tertiary study and the entry of skilled workers.
Traders couldn’t be happier to see the end of President Jacob Zuma’s nine years in power. The 75-year-old leader had driven Wall Street to its wit’s end in recent years amid ratings downgrades, declining growth and a string of scandals
The rand rallied to its highest level since February 2015, following weeks of manoeuvres by the ruling ANC to remove him from office. Many analysts have revised upwards their predictions of South Africa’s economic growth
South Africa’s next president faces a tough road in rebuilding investor confidence and reviving the economy in the wake of President Jacob Zuma’s nine-year tenure that was marred by scandal, misrule and policy missteps
