The South African Department of Home Affairs will only grant permission for Temporary Visas to be issued when the applicant in question can prove they are either of first or second kinship. A Temporary Visa is only valid for 2 years and the sponsor in question must provide evidence that  they can support the applicant throughout that time.

Applicants must prove that they are financially independent and are sponsored by a relative who is already a Permanent Resident or a citizen of South Africa.

It is important to take note of the fact that a decision taken to engage in the route of permanent immigration takes significantly longer to achieve than for a Temporary Visa, and as a result the decision is frequently made to enter the country on a Temporary Visitor’s Visa and then to begin to process of applying for a Permanent Residency Visa.
